first cold weather in the new house

so the house where rochelle and i live is truly wonderful. with dark wood trim around windows and doors and wood floors and spacious basement and warm attic (with a bright yellow carpet.. ) and lots of windows -- lots of them, 6 in the living room and 3 in the dining room, each bedroom has 2. which is wonderful for those of us who have grown up in the daylight-starved north europe.

except for...when the little indentations in the thermometer start sliding down and i could swear our house is around 50 degrees and rochelle and i stand around the stove where we are warming up the tomatoe soup for lunch and warming out hands around the heat like two homeless people. or when i am under my down covers dug in so deep that right now there is a computer and a little tiny breathing break between the sheets and cover and bed. everything is air tight and i could swear the plants in my room have all frosted over, there is no money in the world that will bribe me to get out of here. i am afraid we'll have a long winter...
